Creatures of the night have a sensual and lavish hideaway in Jaguar Shoes, a cocktail, tapas and wine bar with a gothic edge. Despite its name, this place is neither shoe store nor zoo, but rather a shoe-in for zooty young things on the prowl. Leather lounges, wooden floorboards and a velvet-coated bar set a dark and dreamy mood, lit by small chandeliers, candles and a fireplace, and reflected in the myriad mirrors that line the walls.

While swishing down Moet and Chandon, Chapel Street vixens and studs can indulge in a delectable tapas menu featuring fresh South Australian salt and pepper squid in Sichuan pepper and pure sea salt, pan-fried haloumi with pomegranate and orange dressing, and fennel and sage meatballs with tomato ragout. For a fuller feed, the adjoining Kazbar restaurant offers plenty of a la carte temptations, along with an impressive wine and beer list covering Australian, New Zealand and French sensations. Strap on those jaguar shoes!

Hot Tips

Tearing basil leaves

Tear basil leaves with your fingers rather than chopping with a knife. The steel of a knife oxidizes the basil and will turn the cut edge of the basil black.

Glossary

Fattoush

A Lebanese summer salad also known as the "queen of salads", combining fresh summer vegetables, dressed with lemon juice, olive oil and sumac spice and garnished with baked or fried pieces of Lebanese bread.
