You might have to scuttle like a penguin to secure a table at this popular Greek taverna on Phillip Island. Located on the shores of the fishing town of Rhyll, the Big Fat Greek Bar & Grill transplants the feel of the Mediterranean seamlessly into its beautiful island locale. Run by the former owners of Cafe Gabriel's at Inverloch, Big Fat Greek maintains its traditional roots with a menu divided into mezethes (small shared plates) like grilled haloumi cheese, charred king prawns and Spanakopita (spinach and cheese pie); fayito (mains) like moussaka, lamb souvlaki and chargrilled catch of the day; and glyka (desserts) like baklava, Greek shortbreads and Turkish delight.

Hot Tips
Rare roast beef
Using a meat thermometer helps to determine precisely when the beef is cooked to rare. Simply insert the thermometer into the centre of the thickest part of the beef (avoiding the bone, fat and gristle), it will be cooked to rare when it is 50°C, medium-rare will be 55°C, medium is a little over 60°C.
Glossary
