Lygon Street is not exactly a Middle Eastern mecca, but in a crowded marketplace of pasta and pizza parlours Cupido certainly stands out. On the lower end of Carlton, this double-level restaurant and bar offers classic Middle Eastern foods like pide, falafel, mixed grills and tabbouleh, and to complement them, a multitude of cocktails and shisha pipes. The Arabian nights here are more stylish than the norm, especially upstairs in the cushion lounge; bathed in pink and purple lighting, the crisp-white space features cosy lounges and a terrace courtyard looking out onto the trees outside. If that doesn't shake your belly, the belly dancers on Friday and Saturday nights will.
