La Shish Lebanese Restaurant

Amazing value doesn't usually look this good. This smart, upmarket restaurant in Guildford is some of the best Lebanese you're likely to find in Sydney and it's incredibly cheap. Try the fish in hot sauce, the shawarma mixed plate (a huge undertaking: this is only for the super-hungry) or the garlic chicken with lemon and garlic sauce. A secret only the local foodies used to know about, the secret is spreading fast.

Hot Tips
Floury vs. waxy potatoes
Waxy potatoes tend to hold their shape and remain firm and compact when boiled. Floury potatoes become fluffy and airy inside and are best used for baking, roasting, mashing and deep-frying. Due to their low sugar content they tend to fall apart when boiled.
Glossary
Baklawa
This popular Greek and Turkish pastry is made from layers of filo pastry, nuts, and honey. It is then baked and spiced lemon-honey syrup is poured over the pastry and left to soak into the layers.
