About the VCC

The Victorian Cultural Collaboration (VCC) is an agreement between SBS, the State Library Victoria, Museum Victoria, the Royal Botanic Gardens, the Victorian Arts Centre, the Victorian College of the Arts and the National Gallery Victoria. The aim of the collaboration is to merge cultural content from across the organisations to create informative and entertaining websites for SBS online.

Gold is a VCC website, produced with the assistance of Sovereign Hill, the Gold Museum, the Gold Treasury Museum, the Ballarat Fine Art Gallery, Heritage Victoria and the Australian National Maritime Museum.

Museum Victoria Museum Victoria
Museum Victoria is Victoria's State Museum. Its overall collection is comprised of 16 million individual items from the natural sciences, Indigenous cultures, social history, sciences and technology. Based in Melbourne, Museum Victoria operates four museums at three separate locations. It also provides extensive outreach and Internet services. National Gallery of Victoria National Gallery of Victoria
The National Gallery of Victoria is the oldest public art gallery in Australia. Founded in 1861 - only ten years after the colony of Victoria itself. The Gallery has grown into a collection of great richness and diversity, encompassing all major media of the fine and applied arts, and ranging in date from antiquity to the present day.

Royal Botanic Gardens Royal Botanic Gardens
The Royal Botanic Gardens have become world-famous for their spectacular vistas across sweeping lawns and lakes. Every visitor will enjoy a walk around the Ornamental Lake with its teeming native bird-life, however there is much more to see at Melbourne’s most popular garden attraction. The mild climate of this city, combined with a long history of plant collection from around the world, has allowed an immense range of plants from across Australia and the world to be brought together at the Royal Botanic Gardens.

State Library of Victoria State Library of Victoria
The State Library of Victoria opened in 1856 as the Melbourne Public Library, as one of Australia's earliest public libraries. The Library is Victoria's primary reference and research library for public use. In terms of physical size the Library's current holdings now number well over 2,000,000 items. The collections are primarily print-based, and likely to remain so, however, they do include a variety of formats ranging from books, newspapers, ephemera, sheet music, paintings and photographs, manuscripts, through to video recordings and computer files, as well as material in languages other than English.

The State Library of Victoria's building at 328 Swanston Street is one of Melbourne's most distinctive landmarks. The Library is currently undergoing a major building redevelopment program which includes refurbishment of the famous Domed Reading Room, recently classified as one of the world's thousand most significant buildings of the 20th century. Victorian Arts Centre Victorian Arts Centre
The Victorian Arts Centre is one of the world's great performing arts centres. Located in the heart of Melbourne, its 162 metre spire is a city landmark. The Centre’s venues include the State Theatre, an opulent venue for opera ballet and musicals, the Playhouse and the more intimate George Fairfax Studio which cater for drama, the Concert Hall, renowned for its remarkable acoustics, the contemporary and youth-oriented Black Box and the Sidney Myer Music Bowl, Melbourne’s favourite outdoor venue.

Experience costume and objects from the collection of the Performing Arts Museum, as well as an extensive collection of Australian Art, in our exhibition spaces. The Arts Centre Shop and Arts Centre Sunday Markets are additional Melbourne highlights not to be missed. Victorian College of the Arts Victorian College of the Arts
The VCA is Australia's premier visual and performing arts training institution, offering degrees, postgraduate programs and short courses through the Schools of Art, Dance, Drama, Film & television, Music, the Production Centre and The Centre for Ideas. The mission of the VCA is to provide excellent education, training and practice for emerging artists and practitioners and to support, enhance and challenge the arts professions.
