What is Harmony Day?
Managed by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship, Harmony Day is a celebration of Australia’s diversity and coincides with the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination. Since its launch in 1999, there have been 50 000 Harmony Day events at schools, childcare centres, community groups, churches, businesses, and federal, state, and local government agencies.
This year’s Harmony Day theme is Many Stories—One Australia. Each of our 22 million citizens has a unique story to tell, and this is what makes up the chapters of the bigger Australian story we share today. Everyone is invited to share their story.
