Here’s a look at some of the stories we covered in the second half of 2009:

At Risk

One of our most-viewed episodes online looked into what was behind the violent attacks on Indian students that had made headlines all over the world.  International students shared their experiences about living and studying in Australia as Insight investigated the role of private colleges in the education of international students.

Sexual Consent

In August our forum of men and women discussed the very personal subject of sex and consent and what happens when it goes wrong. A string of incidents involving footballers and group sex had sparked some heated debates about the nature of sexual consent and where responsibility lies, particularly in situations involving pressure and intoxication.

Not in My Neighbourhood

How does the criminal justice system deal with pedophiles? Are sentences too low? And should communities be given the right to know if a convicted pedophile is living in their neighbourhood?

In October, judges, public defenders, criminologists, victims and an offender joined the debate on how we should handle child sex-offenders.

Fixing Indigenous Housing

In one of our final programs for 2009, Insight travelled to Alice Springs to talk about the issues surrounding Indigenous housing. The $672 million remote housing project being run by the Federal and Northern Territory Government has come under scrutiny after project delays, underestimated costs and excessive red tape.

Insight was joined by residents of Indigenous town camps, Jenny Macklin, Federal Minister for Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs and architects to discuss the state of Indigenous housing.
