Ever since the first Holden rolled out 60 years ago, we've had a love affair with our cars. Last year Australians bought more new cars than ever and the trend is expected to continue. It seems that nothing will tear the driver and their car apart. Or will it?

Petroleum giant Caltex has warned that motorists could be paying more than $3 a litre for petrol within 10 years because of dwindling oil supplies. To add to the hip pocket pain, the Greens are calling for new carbon taxes for motorists in a bid to prevent greenhouse gases from reaching dangerous levels by 2015.

Not to mention a recently released NSW Health study that found that 1,400 people die each year from air pollution in the Sydney basin. Do Australia's mum and dad commuters and rev heads need to give up their cars? Are the days of the petrol engine numbered?

Insight brings together car lovers, car manufacturers and the oil industry to examine the future of our car dependency.
