Suicide,anxiety,depression
I feel compelled to share my close relative's story,in case it can help someone. She had severe anxiety & depression & was hospitalised several times for suicide attempts. She has since been diagnosed,by a doctor, & treated for reactive hypoglycemia(NOT DIABETES)& food intolerances.Diagnosis came via a 5day fast as an inpatient under doctor care followed by food challenges.Control of the condition is via diet & has been hugely successful. Insulin&adrenalin are involved in this condition.

I have to ? how much knowledge actually helped in the case of a triple cert Charge Nurse (VERY prof'l 40yrs exp) who one am (post night shift in a rehab unit) gave a very strange&uncharcateristic handover saying all the patients had died! no one questioned.no one thought to do ANYTHING re this bizarre behaviour! She drove home on a wing&a prayer. It was discovered later she'd hit something along the way.She didn't know. Her hubby ph'd&was told re odd handover.Brain tumour later fnd thanks 2 tests.

ACTION NEEDED
Having knowledge is one thing ACTION is another.Action id vital! So too is testing.... Thorough 'testing' of people exhibiting what may be diagnosed as MI must be a high priority.not just treating the symptoms!

parental leave
Mr Abbot says his parental leave is now welfare but an workplace entitlement. Annual leave, long service leave, sick leave among others are also workplace entitlements and all paid for by the employer. Why should a levy/tax initially subsidised by consumers as costs are passed on at the retail end and then as a Federal tax be foistered on taxpayers at a huge annual cost. Why should Mr Abbot's proposal for parental leave be any different to all other workplace entitlements.

temperment vs mentally ill
A lot of people get diagnosed and put on medications when really their temperaments dwell on the negative side of life. When their life takes a turn for the worst they may get very depressed which may lead on to suicidal tendencies. However educating about temperaments you will not only be able to recognize people who are in part melancholy; through some lengthy discussion you can advise them on ways to stay positive.

Imported Worker Vs MH CARE
I would be interested to know ,if we would still need to import the volume of overseas workers if ALL people suffering from Mental Illness had adequate & appropriate care and support at ALL stages in order to prevent illness, obtain and mantain wellness? How many currently unwell skilled and unskilled workers do we have 'here' who could be helped?how many currently ill and their carers could then be in empoyment.Where are OUR governments priorities?Don't REPLACE us.Help US NOW!

Trust
The bottom line comes down to TRUST. For a party to sack their Boss simply because the Opinion Polls suggested he might not win the next election is pure hyprocisy - To trust them with anything else is crazy. In addition their track record on completion is woeful and Julia was deputy all that time. If you keep doing what they have done for three years then we will get what they have so far produced in another 3 years ... NOTHING -

Reply to Kellie, Gold Coast
There was a small item in the Herald a few weeks ago about the Coalition spending money for mental health problems to reduce the number of inappropriate imprisonments. Out here in the west this is so relevant but I am not aware of any comments by the candidates for Macquarie or Lindsay. Preventive mental issues should include alcoholism, depression/suicide/self harm, and youth violence. Other social factors should include unemployment, health, and education.

Mental health
I have suffered from depression, insomnia and anxiety for close to 7 years and found that the only true source of peace is Jesus Christ. Matthew 6, Philipians 4. Trust, surrender and meditate on Gods word. As Biily Grahamm once said the greatest tranquilising pill is Jesus Christ.
