The Oppositions Credibility
Can I just say this about the Coalition: The Broadband Policy they took to the 2010 election was an absolute joke, and they know this because Malcolm Turnbull now has the job of the MP that was responsible for it. Second, Turnbull and that Telstra mouthpiece keep on going on about Government owned Monopolies. I HAVE YET TO HEAR ONE GOOD REASON WHY TELSTRAS PRIVATE MONOPOLY IS ANY BETTER. As a matter of fact, Telstras behaviour in regards to competition in the industry has been Abbhorent.

I heard Kevin Morgan state on Insight: "If Stephen's understanding of the Telstra network is such, that a third of it is above the ground at the moment, he had better go out and have a look. One of the achievements of Telecom and Telstra was to put the copper underground. I used to work for the union that represented the technicians that maintained that copper network. I keep in touch with those people..." I have been in 20 suburbs in Adelaide and the copper is above ground. check street view.

The National Broadband Network
If the benefits of the proposed NBN network are so great then why oh why is the Labor party so reluctant to do a cost benefit study? I did not hear Malolm Turnbull and the Liberal party arguing against the NBN. They are only arguing against the way that Labor is proposing to roll out the network. They are asking that alternatives be considered. Alternatives about where when and what to roll out. They are doing their job as the opposition. To ensure that tax payer $$$ are not wasted.

NBN
Malcolm Turnbull clearly stated that he and his party are not against the idea of the NBN per se. All they are asking for is that there should be a proper cost benefit study done and that viable alternatives be considered in the way that it should be rolled out and the type of technology used. Given that the projected costs of the current proposal are estimated to be 43$B, it's not an unreasonable request. Minister Conroy wanted us to accept the NBN based on faith, not unlike a religious belief

I know for a fact that the cost allways excees the projected forcast because not once has the Government ever said hey guys it came in under budget so heres the refund. So would the moneys not be better spent on more roads, tunnels, hostipals schools education etc. Internet is fast enough. my 2 cents

NBN, the fast internet boardband will not accepted by majority people, cos most people has tiny money left in hand today compare to 5 years ago. australian people is outgoing people, we have nice weather than hongkong, japan and korean, therefore people can go bbq over the weekend. what happen if all people addict to internet? imagine all people catch a potato, then health will be another concerned for the gov, then doctors less, nurse less, hospital less, hoo, hooo... nightmare being,

Broadband
Having just watched the program I was surprised that no one asked the minister to give a guarantee that the finished cost would not exceed $43 billion. It is a well known fact that Governments fudge figures to meet their agenda and the rumours I hear is that the end cost will far and exceed the $43 billion.

Why is there even a debate about cost /benefit surely we must have one to at the least determine. 1.cost for each household 2.retail cost to customer. 3.based on 2 what will be the % uptake. Why not look at providing NBN to schools and hospitals first and based on that cost and success then look at NBN to the home.

I would like to comment as a student of nursing and a rural student who also works 3 job locations for 2 employers, that the NBN will save Australia money both long and short term, the hospitals in this region have recently up-graded to digital information- this would be even better if the nurses had portable pda's or useable equivilent devices, what good are such upgrades if the networks providing the service are too old and slow for the real time benifits to be felt.

Fast reliable Internet at University- NOT TRUE!
Saying that Universities in Australia already have fast, reliable Internet is an outright LIE! I attend the University of Wolongong and have to contend with incredibly unreliable Internet on a daily basis. It is simply UNUSABLE! It is a moot point as to whether the Internet is fast if it is unreliable in the first place! I have NO access to Internet in Coledale simply because we live too close to the escarpment. Ridiculous! I support the NBN 100% IF it is affordable for all.
