A former teenage music journalist, Craig Mathieson is the film critic for The Sunday Age, having previously held the same role for The Bulletin and Rolling Stone Australia. As well as contributing to SBS Film, he writes widely across film, music and television for Fairfax Media and is the author or co-author of five books, including 2000’s Hi-Fi Days and 2013’s 100 The Best Albums of All Time. Mathieson’s favourite films are Michael Mann’s Heat, Nicholas Ray’s In A Lonely Place, Claire Denis’ Beau Travail, and Howard Hawks’ His Girl Friday.
