Mumbai remembered as Millionaire takes top honours
Director Danny Boyle has paid tribute to the devastated city of Mumbai in accepting the British Independent Film Award for Slumdog Millionaire, his urban fairytale set on the streets of the troubled Indian city.
Referring to the terrorist attacks that killed upwards of 170 people, Boyle said it was "weird to win this at the end of what has been a terrible week".
Giveaway: Palestinian Film Festival
The inaugural Palestinian Film Festival gets underway in Sydney this week and we have a double pass to the Opening Night to give away, with thanks to the festival organisers, Cultural Media.
The Palestinian Film Festival will take place over the next two weekends, at the Palace Norton Street Cinema, Leichhardt from December 5 – 7, and the Sidetrack Shed Theatre, Marrickville from December 13 – 14.
Film Fix: Lou Reed revisits his epic song-cycle, Berlin

Lou Reed recorded the album Berlin in 1973. It was a commercial failure. Over the next 33 years, he never performed the album live. For five nights in December 2006 at St. Ann's Warehouse Brooklyn, Lou Reed performed his masterwork about love's dark sisters: jealousy, rage and loss. - Julian Schnabel (Director’s statement).
