The world's fastest and greenest powerboat has sped into Sydney.

The world's fastest and greenest powerboat has sped into Sydney.

Dubbed Earthrace, the powerboat in June set a new world record for circling the globe - smashing the old record by more than two weeks.

The boat, powered entirely by 100 per cent renewable biodiesel fuel, has already visited 40 countries and hosted more than 150,000 people aboard its decks.

Earthrace arrived at Manly Wharf in Sydney's north on Thursday and will dock at Darling Harbour and Sydney's Overseas Passenger Terminal before departing the harbour city on January 13.

The boat will be open to the public.

NSW Lands Minister Tony Kelly said Earthrace highlighted the potential of biofuels.

"Biofuels like biodiesel contribute to reducing greenhouse emissions and hazardous particles in our air as they burn cleaner than other petroleum fuels," Mr Kelly said in a statement.

"This is why the NSW government is committed to encouraging the sustainable local production, distribution and consumer use of biofuels including biodiesel."
