The government will give out cash payments in a bid to stimulate the economy. (AAP)

The federal government has unveiled a $42 billion 'Nation Building and Jobs Plan' to stave off recession, but how will the money be spent?

- New buildings or building upgrades in 9,540 schools nationwide

- More than 20,000 new social and defence homes

- 'Significant increase' in funding for local community infrastructure and local road projects

- A temporary business investment tax break for small and general businesses buying eligible assets

Cash payments

One-off $950 cash payment to low and middle-income families, single workers, students, drought-effected farmers and others, in five groups of bonuses:

1. Tax bonus for working Australians: (paid automatically by ATO)

- $950 tax bonus for taxable income up to $80,000

$950 stymulus bonus

We keep hearing about this package but we have not had one word about how this money is going to be paid. Will it come in with my wage? Will it come in with my pension? Thanks Mr. Rudd - great idea. But a bit more info would be good. As it is, we dont know where we stand.

I feel it's about time that the hard workers on low income have been thought of for once, the goverment has helped the unemployed, single mums have had all that money for each child some have six kids so they were given $6000.00 dollars.
Agecare workers in the community get help some times but not agecare wokers who work in agecare homes, we have to work a lot of hours to get decent pay, I'm grateful for a little help.

Why is it that to survive these days when you have a family you both need to work so there is always something that will go without, ie kids and time.
But now we miss out on any handouts the goverment gives because we choose not to receive centrelink and go out to work, whether it be full or part time.
I  find this extremly fustrating while I am working I have friends doing jobs and not paying tax but are going to get the handouts.
IF WE WORK HARD WE SHOULD ALSO GET THIS PAYMENT

I am wondering about the payments for the stimulus package...
I have two children (school age) so I know i get $900 per child but we are also a low income family and also a one income family - does this mean I get the payment x 4 times or just 2?

better spent

I would like to say I am half agreeable to the package, as a single mum to a child with a disability (aspergers) and i kind of work. I had an hour cut so any money in my household is very welcomed, i strongly agree with putting money into consumer pockets as most will spend it (what good is it giving money to business to avoid job losses when the average "Joe" has no money to spend. I do believe however the package could have been better spent to give consumers more confidence in their spendin

Too little Too late

How many stimulus packages will it take before the penny drops? Governments all over the world have indoctrinated the masses with their band-aid solutions to absorb the orchestrated financial crisis of the millennium, which has plagued the world. All of the stimulus packages been adopted around the globe will be shoved down our throats causing prolongation, making the problem worse in this current crisis. As far as the handouts are concerned, the government is buying your future votes wake up!

$80,000 income?

Just wondering if anyone can settle an argument on this stimulus package & the definition of the $80,000 taxable income?
My wife & I both work full time but have no kids... we both earn under $80,000 but are not sure if we are both eligible or if our joint incomes are taken into consideration thus excluding us from any money at all??
Can someone that is sure please answer the question or provide a possible avenue for the definitive answer as I have read all I can find but I'm still not sure??

There once again seems to be no help for those that are on unemployment benefits.
Maybe the government thinks that we are rich enough to stand alone.
While I welcome the help they have given to families, I am over 50 and find it very hard to make ends meet.
But once again we have missed out.
I would like to know WHY!
