Swine flu can still spread even if carriers are quarantined at home, thanks to an ‘educational’ spread-to-win game.

Called Killer Flu, the online game asks the player to deliberately spread a deadly virus to as many carriers as possible in the shortest time.

Video game designer Dr Ian Bogost from Persuasive Games says although the game may seem irresponsible it's an educational tool.

He says it illustrates the way seasonal and pandemic flu develops, mutates and spreads.

The game is designed to educate players on how the influenza virus is transmitted and how it changes every year, with a special level designed to differentiate between a pandemic flu and a seasonal virus.

The designers hope the game “will be a bit fun” and illustrate that pandemic flu kills fewer people than thought.

“Try to kill too many people in the game and see how difficult it is!” the site says.
