Emergency services are at the scene of the twin blasts in Jakarta

An Australian man has reportedly been injured in explosions that have rocked two international hotels in Jakarta, killing at least four foreigners.

An Australian man has reportedly been injured in explosions that have rocked two international hotels in Jakarta, killing at least four foreigners.

The man's father - who identified himself as Jim, from Melbourne - told Fairfax radio his son had phoned him from the Indonesian capital to say he was hurt - but safe.

The man said his leg was wounded and he had lost hearing in one ear in an explosion at the JW Marriott hotel, and that he was on his way to hospital.

"He was in the explosion and he was bleeding from the left leg, although from what I can gather the injury is not serious," the man's father said.

"He lost his hearing in one ear, but he thinks he will recover from that, and he's on his way to hospital. He's OK" he added.

DFAT emergency hotline

Foreign affairs officials are trying to find out whether any other Australians have been killed or injured in the explosions at the Ritz-Carlton and Marriott hotels.

The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) says it is aware of reports about the blasts.

"The post in Jakarta is urgently seeking to identify whether any Australians have been injured," a spokeswoman said.

DFAT says people concerned about the welfare of friends and family should try to contact them directly first.

If unable to make contact, they can call DFAT on 02 6261 3305 or 1300 555 135.
