Indonesia's state news agency says conjoined twins have been born who have a single body with two heads.

Antara reported on Saturday that the baby boys share all of their vital organs, except each has his own heart.

Their birth weight was 3.2kg and they were otherwise healthy. They have not yet been named.

Hospital director Dr Rasul Alim referred to the conjoined twins as a single entity.

He was quoted as saying it would be medically impossible to separate the twins and that "we will take care of him in the best way we can".

Crowds gathered at the hospital in Riau province in western Indonesia to get a glimpse of what officials told Antara was the first known birth of its kind in the district.
