A 19-year-old man has become the 17th person to die with swine flu in South Australia, health authorities say.

A 19-year-old man has become the 17th person to die with swine flu in South Australia, health authorities say.

It is understood the man had underlying health conditions.

SA Health, in a statement released on Tuesday, said the man died with H1N1 influenza at the Lyell McEwin Hospital on Friday.

There have been 8,094 confirmed cases of H1N1 in South Australia, and currently there are 42 patients in hospital, five of them in intensive care.
