Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has discussed trade and climate change with his Singaporean counterpart during a visit to Jakarta.

Mr Rudd met with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on Tuesday afternoon after both leaders attended the inauguration of Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.

The leaders discussed ways to revitalise the Doha Round of trade talks, and efforts being made to secure an international climate change agreement at Copenhagen in December.

They also discussed preparations of next month's APEC Summit in Singapore and this week's East Asia Summit in Thailand.

They also discussed the recent devastating earthquake in Sumatra and their governments' responses.

SBY, as he is popularly known, was sworn in for a second five-year term at a ceremony in Jakarta on Tuesday morning, following his re-election in July.

During his speech, Dr Yudhoyono thanked Mr Rudd and other world leaders for attending his inauguration. Foreign Minister Stephen Smith and Australian Defence Force Chief Angus Houston were also in attendance.

"The attendance of international friends at the inauguration today is a symbol of goodwill and unmeasurable honour for Indonesia," Dr Yudhoyono said.

Dr Yudhoyono promised Indonesia would continue to be a free and democratic country, committed to justice and world peace.

"Indonesia will cooperate with anyone who has the same good intentions as us, especially to build a peaceful world order," he said.

Mr Rudd was due to meet privately with Dr Yudhoyono later on Tuesday, with people smuggling and asylum seekers likely to be at the top of the agenda. He was also due to meet with Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak.

Mr Rudd was due to leave Indonesia on Tuesday night.
