South Australian Opposition Leader Isobel Redmond has offered to be tasered to prove the worth of the electrical stun devices for local police.

South Australian Opposition Leader Isobel Redmond has offered to be tasered to prove the worth of the electrical stun devices for local police.

"Yes, I'd be prepared to try that," she told ABC Radio on Wednesday.

Ms Redmond has promised to provide 500 Taser stun guns to SA police officers if the Liberals win the state election in March next year.

Police are currently conducting a review of the devices ahead of a recommendation on their use across SA.

The Labor government says if police want Tasers they will get them.

Ms Redmond said the opposition believed Tasers were a relatively safe option for police dealing with dangerous situations.

She said she was willing to experience being tasered to prove that point.

"If it will prove the point, yes I will," she said.

"But if you ask me the same question about would I be prepared to be shot, then no, and that's the alternative.

"The choice between a gun shooting and a Taser ... I think that's a better option."

Ms Redmond said under a Liberal government there would be very tight controls on the use of Tasers by police.

A hand-held device, a Taser uses an electrical current to disrupt voluntary muscle control for several seconds, rendering a victim helpless.
