One Liberal MP says the growth of the Muslim population in Australia is a problem (AAP)

Former immigration minister Kevin Andrews says Australia should have a serious discussion about the growth of its Muslim population.

"To have a concentration of one ethnic or one particular group that remains in an enclave for a long period of time is not good," the federal MP told Macquarie Radio.

Asked about the growth of Muslim population in Australia, he said it was a topic that had to be discussed.

"You should be able to talk about it ... It's ridiculous if you can't talk about any subject," he said.

Subjects 'off the table'

"When a subject becomes politically incorrect to talk about, then it ends up with a backlash.

"I think part of the (Pauline) Hanson movement in the early 1990s was because some subjects were simply said to be off the table, they couldn't be discussed and a lot of Australians wanted to discuss them.

"Whether they were right or wrong is not the point. In a democracy you should be able to discuss them."

It is a shame to read that our Australian society is concluding to very negative statements about Muslims. Everyone in a democratic society is entitled to voice their opinion, but the sad thing is that they even think them at all, let alone spread that negativity to others. In Islam, we are taught that we are all the creation of God, and that we all have the responsibility to not harm any of God's creation, including all people, animals, and earth, etc. We all need to uphold these values.

Difficult for Australians to understand how Muslim clerics come to live in Australia and absolutely rubbish Australian democracy and push for barbaric Sharia law to be combined with our laws .Unfortunately these are the leaders of the muslim community whom we understand represent Muslims generally. These clerics seem to be on a power trip and I don't believe I've ever heard of one of the followers contradict them or disagree with their teachings. These clerics should be deported immediately.

We have Muslims here who complain about xmas events at schools, Trying to add Sharia law to Australian law. The problem is integration and unfortunately some of the anti social religious laws about infidels is threatening to say the least. If I went to live in a Muslim country and tried to do the same thing I would be locked up forever.. Why do some people come here and then not accept the Australian way. We don't want the fanatics here , they are dangerous to us all.

"Learning from one another - Bringing Muslim Perspectives into Australian School " (check it out) - what a big impact only 2% of the population is to have. How about Hindu or other sytems such as budism - which has a higher population percent in Australia than 2% of Islam. Islam is NOT culture it is a RELIGION. We need to remember this.
