Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has taken another hit in the opinion polls over asylum seekers, but Labor's approval rating remains steady.

Prime Minister Kevin Rudd has taken another hit in the opinion polls over asylum seekers.

The Newspoll in The Australian shows 53 per cent of voters think the prime minister is doing a bad job of managing the issue, against 31 per cent who think he is handling it well.

The Fairfax/Nielsen poll shows 47 per cent disapprove of Labor's stance on the 78 asylum seekers refusing to get off the Oceanic Viking in Indonesia, while 45 per cent are for it.

It also shows Mr Rudd'S personal approval rating has slipped three points to 68 per cent while Opposition Leader Malcolm Turnbull's climbed two points to 37 per cent.

But Mr Rudd is still way ahead as preferred prime minister, with 68 per cent to Mr Turnbull's 24 per cent, and Labor's 56 to 44 per cent ahead in the two-party preferred stakes.

The pressing issue is not asylum seekers - it's EMISSONS TRADING & the far reaching effects of The Draft Copenhagen Treaty. I was a Rudd supporter but his behaviour -his secrecy regarding the hidden agenda behind ETs & the Copenhagen Treaty has changed my thinking. He is pushing hard on ETs, he is refusing to accept any view other than his own, he is making moves to increase powers of the Prime Minister. The Prime Monster is making a farce of our democracy. He ignores public opinion at his peril.

To the above, Given the state of economic affairs in the world over the last two years, what would you have done differently? I didn't vote Rudd but let's be fair, he spent when the right said don't, and now it seems to have been a good decision, no?

I'm stunned as to why Rudd is still so popular. Is the general public so gullible? What has he done since taking office, aside from throwing money around, having endless reviews, swanning around all over the world in order to impress and delaying any decision for as long as is possible? The only decision, if you can call it that, so far is regarding the asylum seekers on board the Australian customs vessel. Trying to pay to export his problem clearly is not working. Many, many broken promises.
