Wheelchair racing champion Kurt Fearnley has completed a 10-day crawl along the Kokoda Track to raise money for charity.

Fearnley, 28, the paralympian and four-time New York marathon winner, tackled the notoriously difficult trek with 15 friends and family members.

Writing on his blog, the athlete announced: "We made it.

"Sitting at Owers Corner enjoying a couple of beers. Mum and Dad are here. Amazing experience. I'm so happy we’re here."

Fearnley set out on the challenge on November 8, dragging himself  96km along the infamous Papua New Guinea trail on his hands.

Trek veteran and Kokoda Spirit team leader Wayne Weatherall has compared Fearnley's effort to competing in an able-body marathon every day.

"It is one tough gig Kurt's doing and I'm absolutely amazed at the courage and strength to undertake this. It's an amazing journey," he said at the outset of the trek.

"It just shows the capacity of mankind, when people think things are impossible, things are possible and this guy is going to show us."
