Aviation security experts from the European Union are meeting to discuss the possible introduction of full-body scanners at European airports.

Aviation security experts from the European Union are meeting to discuss the possible introduction of full-body scanners at European airports following the attempt to blow up a Detroit-bound plane on Christmas Day.

Until now, the EU has allowed member states to decide on whether to use body scanners at airport security checkpoints. In 2008, the European Parliament demanded more study on the health and privacy impact before approving EU-wide rules.

After the attempted terrorist attack on December 25, the EU is re-evaluating its security regulations. The experts from the member states will assess on Thursday whether body scanners can fit into EU legislation, officials say.
