Brad Quillam and his family survived the Black Saturday bushfires that devastated their hometown - but he says the deadly blaze has forged a stronger community.

Dozens of people died when blazes swept through Kinglake on February 7 last year.

But survivor Brad Quillam says those who made it through the fires have emerged stronger as a result.
