Disendorsed Labor MP Belinda Neal says she has not yet decided if she will contest the federal election as an independent.

But she has denied she has commissioned signs to advertise herself as a candidate.

Ms Neal refused to confirm on Friday if she would run for the NSW Central Coast seat of Robertson.

"I just have not made a decision," she told Fairfax Radio Network.

"I obviously have to make plans for my future and at the moment I haven't made them.

"I'm entitled to make my decisions about my future as I choose to, and in the timing I choose to."

Robertson a marginal seat

She has until next Thursday to nominate.

Ms Neal lost a preselection battle in her Robertson electorate in March to university lecturer Deborah O'Neill.

Labor holds Robertson with a tiny margin of 0.1 per cent.

She said a report in The Sydney Morning Herald on Friday saying it was understood that she had commissioned signs saying "Belinda Neal: Independent for Robertson" was wrong.

"That's absolutely incorrect.

"That's completely untrue."

Ms Neal suffered a public and private backlash after allegedly abusing staff at Iguana Joe's bar and restaurant and telling Liberal MP Sophie Mirabella that her evil thoughts would turn her unborn child into a demon.

No charges were laid as a result of the "Iguanagate" affair, but former prime minister Kevin Rudd reportedly ordered her to undergo anger management counselling.
