Shares in Foster's have gained six per cent in morning trading on reports that brewing giant SAB Miller is plotting a 12 billion dollar takeover of its beer arm CUB.

Shares in Foster's have gained six per cent in morning trading on reports that brewing giant SAB Miller is plotting a 12 billion dollar takeover of its beer arm CUB.

The shares were up 35 cents to $6.17 their highest level since November 2008.

London's Sunday Times says that if SAB can snare the brewer of Victoria Bitter and Carlton Draught it could challenge Belgium-based Anheuser-Busch InBev as the world's largest brewer.
