Sydney Blue Sox pitcher Chris Oxspring will head to America to try his luck with the Detroit Tigers Major League Baseball team.

The outstanding pitcher in the new Australian Baseball League, Oxspring will head to the United States to trial with the Tigers during their spring training campaign.

If the right-hander, who spent time with Major League team San Diego Padres in 2005, impresses he'll be given the opportunity to stay longer with the team.

"If you play well enough then you get a chance so hopefully if I take my form from here over there and throw like I have been, then I will get my chance which is all I am after," Oxspring said.

"I go over with a Major League invite so I will be at spring training with the Major League team and if I throw the ball well enough then I will stay longer and they will take a longer look.

"If I don't then I will start in Triple A (minor leagues) and give it all I've got."
