The Austrian judo federation on Thursday announced the death of Olympic silver medallist Claudia Heill, which police are investigating to determine whether it was suicide.

Heill, 29, who retired from judo in 2009, was killed after falling from the sixth floor of a Vienna building, police said. No suicide letter was found, they added.

"Claudia was successful in her studies, she was a very active person. Everyone who knew her is in shock," judo federation president Hans Paul Kutschera told ORF television.

Alongside her studies, Heill was also involved in junior judo training.

Heill won a silver medal in the women's under 63kg category at the Athens Summer Olympics in 2004.

She also took home five European championship medals between 2001 and 2007.
