Prime Minister Julia Gillard is failing in her task to win Australians over to carbon tax, according to the latest poll conducted by Galaxy Poll for News Ltd.
The results show that 68 per cent say it the tax will leave them worse off and 63 per cent believe Ms Gillard should call an early election.
The nationwide telephone poll of 500 people conducted on Monday night for the Herald Sun found they don't trust the prime minister's promise that more than six out of 10 households would be fully compensated or better off after compensation for the rise in the cost of living.
Only 10 per cent of voters thought they would be better off while just 28 per cent believe Ms Gillard has a mandate to bring in the tax without holding another election.
The poll also reveals that 62 per cent think the Greens, who negotiated the package with Labor and the independents, have too much influence over the government, while 30 per cent say the Greens are working effectively.
It finds that 81 per cent believe the tax will have little or no impact on the environment and 67 per cent believe it will be bad for the economy compared with 22 per cent who think it will be good.

Carbon Tax - BAD Idea
This carbon dioxide tax is a huge scam...the rest of the world must be thinking this is the most unutterably stupid Government in the world that we should be trying to punish the one industry where we actually have a competitive advantage in, energy and mining. Resign Julia, you are just bad news.
No mandate for tax
The PM has no mandate for this worthless tax. It is all beurocracy, subsidies, taxes and wasted advertising millions- hot air...probably C02 .Again it is tax paying middle Australia who has to put up not only with flood levies and reduced private health levies but this tax as well-Middle Austrlia is Julia's money tree. The PM should go to the polls or the Governor General consider using her legitimate reserve powers, defer signing the Bill, and call for an election so the people have their say

Okay Adrian. Search brammo on the internet. Solar read technology and how in America factories are being built with their own power supply. Just add technology in your widgets and get up to date. There is a wonderful world of technology out there its just everything is designed to make money nobody is going to bring out a product if they cant make their zillion dollars. Build smaller solar power for each dwelling. Electric motors have less moving parts than combustion engines.
election now please
Let the people decide, that is democracy, not the sham, unelected mishmash of a puppet government we have in Canberra. If gillard had one ounce of principle she would hold a fresh election in response to the overwhelming opposition by voters to this deceitful policy backflip.
We will be worse off
Ronald, you don't get it. If we research alternative technologies much more thoroughly before knee-jerk reaction style implementations, the environment (and us) will be better off in the long run. This whole global warming issue has detracted from other more serious environmental problems, yet you're going on about it like it will save the earth. As much as you'd like it to happen, other countries will not follow suit, and this tax has been predicted to have a nil effect on temperatures.
Let's not be selfish
For years all our actions have been dictated and justified by the mighty dollar, as long as there is a dollar in it it's good. It should be obvious to all that we do a lot of things wrong and compromising the legacy we are leaving for those that follow us. I applaud Julia for having the guts to try and do something toward a more sustainable future and hope the liberals dump Abbott and get a leader that thinks / acts in the nations interest rather then his own ambition to win the next election
action v inaction
I am all for cleaning up our polluted air but at such a cost and under this inept government, I don't hink so. I thought Labour were going to really make a difference nearly 5 years ago under Rudd. He at least made more of a difference than useless Gillard. I just do not understand anyone who agrees with her and believe me I am trying to.
Technology is NOT here
Ronald - what are you on about? Renewable energy technology is definitely not at the stage where it can replace base load coal fired power stations. Look at Denmark - they have the largest percentage of wind turbines in the world, yet they have to buy their electricity from other countries (nuclear or coal) in the months the wind dies down (furthermore wind power can only provide a base load of around 30% before it becomes unreliable) Develop tech first, then implement it when it is ready!
Ronald
Are we really going to be that much worse off than doing nothing? I don't think so. Anything we do life is going to be harder and of coarse in the long run we need to pay more money but we will not be left destitute. Why is the media hounding carbon tax the way they are and doesn't anyone say hey what about the environment? The environment can wait? Action needs to be taken and other countries follow suit. Look at Portugal and follow in their footsteps. Technology is here use it.
