White House: No contact yet from ET
(File)
The White House says it has no evidence that extraterrestrials have ever tried to contact humans.
In a galaxy, far, far away, there is a mathematical chance that alien life exists - but the White House says it has no evidence that extraterrestrials have ever tried to contact humans.
In a blow to conspiracy theorists everywhere, a senior Obama administration official also says there is no credible information to suggest evidence of alien life is being kept from the public.
The unusual comment was contained in a response to several petitions lodged on a White House website.
The responses were by a White House space policy and communications official, Phil Larson, who said the US government had no evidence that any life exists outside earth "or that an extraterrestrial presence has contacted or engaged any member of the human race".
"In addition, there is no credible information to suggest that any evidence is being hidden from the public's eye," Larson wrote.
However, Larson said that the possibility of extraterrestrial life is being discussed and explored, including in several NASA projects.
Despite denying hopes for proof of alien life, Larson did not rule out the idea that it could exist.
"Many scientists and mathematicians have ... come to the conclusion that the odds are pretty high that somewhere among the trillions and trillions of stars in the universe there is a planet other than ours that is home to life," he said.
"Many have also noted, however, that the odds of us making contact with any of them - especially any intelligent ones - are extremely small, given the distances involved.
"But that's all statistics and speculation. The fact is we have no credible evidence of extraterrestrial presence here on earth."
The statement was issued in response to two petitions, which garnered a collective 17,000 signatures, calling on the US government to disclose knowledge of extraterrestrial beings and contact with them.
The White House has started an initiative called "We the People" by allowing people to submit petitions to their government, and pledged to respond to some that get a significant following.
One of the petitions, lodged by the Paradigm Research Group, called on President Obama to "formally acknowledge an extraterrestrial presence engaging the human race and immediately release into the public domain all files from all agencies and military services relevant to this phenomenon".
It claimed that hundreds of military and government agencies had testified to the existence of an extraterrestrial presence, and that polls showed many Americans did not believe the government was telling the truth on the issue.
The mission of the Paradigm Research Group works to expose what it says is a "truth embargo" by the government on extraterrestrial life.

What does this tell us?
That people expect honest answers from the Obama whitehouse. American identity is closely tied to the dream of honest government so my prediction is a win for Obama in this election because out of all the candidates he looks the most likely to give the american public a streight answer.
They have everything to lose
The government has everything to lose by revealing the existence of beings visiting us, it represents a direct threat to so many industries because it might actually pull us up out of our deep 9 to 5 sleep that we begin to question what the hell we are doing on this slave labor camp called Earth working to make the select few rich. Any person with a reasonable amount of intelligence can read the documentation and come to the conclusion we are definitely being visited.
Alien life is already fact
The military officials, government contractors who confirm the existence of extraterrestrials ARE the government, so why aren't people taking their confirmation seriously? We have thousands of well documented compelling incidents involving high level officials who have seen UFO's the size of football fields a hundred meters from their aircraft, or have had telepathic contact with extraterrestrials - it's all documented BY THE GOVERNMENT for anyone who can be bothered to look.
No Aliens with weapons of mass destruct
The white house would be the last to know anyway. The FBI was run for decades under the governance of Hoover and US presidents were themselves subjects of " investigation". The CIA have acted many times on their own cognisance, their "rendition program" an obscene example , they and the Pentagon advised bush on the truth of "weapons of mass destruction".
Pulling the wool
The 'Blue File' should be released. I was informed of its existence 1956 by close relative then employed at Woomera Rocket Range and Honeysuckle. As with most thing these days - information is released only after consideration whether - 'it will keep the natives quiet'
