Gold Walkley winner, Laurie Oakes, talks to SBS Online about asking tough questions, why he’s had more leaks than a plumber and the days when Kevin Rudd used to clean his house.

Channel Nine Political Correspondent Laurie Oakes won the Gold Walkley in 2010 for his coverage of the Labor leaks during the federal election campaign.

The 69-year-old journalist has been in the media for over 40 years but his passion for the job hasn’t faded.

Oakes has been described as a “veteran of the veterans” and his ability to sniff out breaking political news has earned him the respect of politicians and peers alike.

He talks to SBS Online about the secret behind asking the tough questions, why he’s had more leaks than a plumber, and the days when former Prime Minister Kevin Rudd used to clean his house.

Crude

I'm not a fan of a man who can be so crude and bias, it isn't even funny. Laurie Oakes has covered some good stories but also many that were false or not correctly sourced. If that's what people want, so be it but does one deserve an award for producing crap?
