WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange is set to be the latest star to get The Simpsons treatment, producers of the hit show say.

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange is set to be the latest star to get The Simpsons treatment.

Townsville's Mr Assange, currently under UK house arrest in relation to a sexual assault investigation in Sweden, will play himself on episode 500 of the hit Fox show, the Washington Times reports.

“He’s a controversial figure, and there’s a good reason he’s controversial", producer Al Jean told Entertainment Weekly, adding that the team avoided Mr Assange's legal troubles in the storyline, which has reportedly already been recorded.

“There’s nothing we did that has anything to do with the legal situation that he’s in", Mr Jean said.

Julian Assange is also set to unveil his own talk show on the Russian Moscow-backed TV station Russia Today.

I heard that in the 501 episode, Wullie returns to his native Aberdeen in a bid to help Assange escape to Springfield..

Wow really?

This show really has had just about everyone. Shame though that the quality of the comedy has gone down terribly that they need to rely on plots like this to get people to tune in any more. I'll always remember the older series but the show just doesn't do it for me hardly any more.
