First Lady Michelle Obama performs in a push-ups challenge on American television show 'Ellen'.

First Lady Michelle Obama has knocked out a stunning 25 push-ups on American television.

President Barack Obama's wife was being interviewed by Ellen Degeneres and promoting her health agenda when the prime-time TV host challenged her.

Degeneres, 54, asked the First Lady how many push-ups she could do and wondered if it was more than her.

After some teasing, the pair performed about 20 repetitions together, when Degeneres stopped, a little out of puff, but the 48-year-old Obama continued with another five as the studio audience cheered her.

So this is actually considered a good effort? Have the standards for basic fitness been lowered or am I missing something here?
