Gunnedah to receive disaster funds

NSW Emergency Services Minister Mike Gallacher has extended the natural disaster zone to flood-hit Gunnedah Shire Council.

Gunnedah in northern NSW has become the 17th region to be declared a natural disaster area as heavy flooding inundates the state.

Emergency Services Minister Mike Gallacher on Friday extended the natural disaster zone to Gunnedah Shire Council following severe rainfall and flooding in NSW in recent weeks.

Assistance will be provided to the region through Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements and the NSW Disaster Assistance Arrangements.

The measures will help families, business owners and primary producers get back on their feet faster, Mr Gallacher said.

Declarations were made this week for the Local Government Areas of Bellingen, Byron, Kyogle, Lismore, Richmond Valley, Clarence Valley, Coffs Harbour, Inverell, Nambucca, Kempsey, Tweed Shire, Tenterfield, Greater Taree, Moree, Narrabri and Gwydir.

"We will continue to monitor the situation across Northern NSW and offer our support to local communities," Mr Gallacher said in a statement.

"After visiting some of the flood-affected areas and witnessing first-hand the devastating impact the rain and floods have had on local infrastructure, I applaud local community members for their resilience and their willingness to come together in times like these."
