Reward offer for murder case of Indian man

A reward is being offered to help find the person responsible for Indian man Pardeep Kumar's murder in southern NSW in 2009.

The NSW government has offered a $100,000 reward to find the person responsible for the murder of an Indian national in the state's south.

Pardeep Kumar's partially decomposed body was found by a council worker in a drainage ditch off Old Euston Road, Monak, about midday on October 6, 2009.

His body was found about 1km south of the Sturt Highway.

Concerned workers reported the 33-year-old missing on September 27, after he failed to return to his home in Mildura, Victoria.

A post-mortem examination established that Mr Kumar died from a wound to his throat.

Despite exhaustive inquiries by detectives, the person responsible has never been located.

"Mr Kumar was a fruit-picking contractor in Mildura and the Sunraysia area and his violent death deeply shocked the local community," detective inspector Michael Stoltenberg said.

"Investigating officers still haven't been able to confirm what happened to Mr Kumar but it's clear he suffered a violent death.

"We need the community's help to determine the circumstances surrounding his death, and to ultimately solve the crime.

"We strongly believe there are people within the community who have knowledge of this murder but they haven't yet spoken to police.

"It is also believed there are former community members who now reside overseas, particularly in India, who may also be able to assist."

In the hope of receiving new information, NSW police minister Michael Gallacher announced a reward of up to $100,000 for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for Mr Kumar's murder.
