Wife killer Andrew Kalajzich is set to walk free after serving 25 years in prison for hiring a hitman to shoot his wife.

Convicted wife murderer Andrew Kalajzich will walk free on Wednesday after serving more than 25 years in jail.

The NSW State Parole Authority granted the 71-year-old conditional parole last month and set the date for his release.

Kalajzich will be released from Silverwater Correctional Complex, in Sydney's west, at 11am (AEDT) on Wednesday, it said in a statement on Tuesday.

He was found guilty of three charges including murder, conspiring to murder and attempting to discharge a loaded firearm with intent to murder.

Kalajzich organised the 1986 shooting murder of his wife, Megan, at their home in Fairlight in Sydney's northern beaches area.

A review by the Serious Offenders Review Council found that he made excellent progress and was "a model inmate".

Kalajzich will be closely supervised while on parole and monitored by Corrective Services NSW.

He will be subject to strict conditions for the next three years including psychological counselling if directed, a ban on possessing firearms and no overseas travel without prior permission.

He will also have to report to a parole supervisor as directed.

The former millionaire hotel entrepreneur was jailed in 1988 after being convicted of hiring a hitman to shoot his wife twice in the head as she lay in bed in their home on January 27, 1986.
