A young Australian traveller has been found dead in a hotel room in Laos, the third to die in Laos in a month.

A spokeswoman for the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) said that occurred in a hotel Luang Prabang in northwest Laos.

"The department can confirm the death of a 22-year-old Australian man, from Victoria, in Laos. Consular staff in Australia are providing assistance to the man's family," the spokeswoman said.

The man's name has not been released.

This follows the recent deaths of two other Australians in Laos, both in separate mishaps while riding rubber inner tubes down the river at Vang Vieng.
