The day that World War Two came to Australia's doorstep has been remembered at services at home and abroad.

The day that World War Two came to Australia's doorstep has been remembered at services at home and abroad.

Wednesday marked seventy years since Singapore fell to the Japanese, leaving thousands of Australian soldiers prisoners of war.

And time has in no way tempered vivid memories of starvation, cruelty and death.

Luke Waters has more.

Hi, I am wondering if SBS needed to broadcast a war veteran saying “ Japs are Japs. They are all bloody animal.” It is very clear the man was still in pain and very hard to forgive what Japanese did to him and others during the war. But it is not true that all Japanese are bloody animal…. It is such a cheap shot and shallow thinking editing. I couldn’t believe that the news I was watching wasn’t Chanel 7 or 9 but SBS, very disappointing....
