World records come in all shapes and sizes and now one Vermont high school student will soon have a quirky record to call his own.

A student at a US high school will soon be an official record holder.

Jeffrey White has strung together a chain of clamped staples nearly 230 metres long, which is more than three times longer than a Boeing 747.

His attempt to beat the current record began after he finished a science test early and began to string together the staple chain in class.

Now, after $5 spent on staples and more than three months of labour he is about the break the world record.
