KFC could appeal $8m damages

KFC has indicated it could appeal the eight million dollars awarded by a court to the family of a Sydney girl who became disabled after eating KFC food.

The family of Sydney girl who became disabled after eating a KFC meal may still have legal and financial troubles, with the fast food chain indicating it could appeal the eight million dollars awarded by a court.

KFC was ordered yesterday to pay the money plus legal costs after Justice Stephan Rothman found Monika Samaan was left severely brain damaged after eating a Twister chicken wrap.

Monika, her parents and her brother ended up in hospital with salmonella poisoning.

KFC has indicated it will appeal the judge's liability finding, leading the family to express its distress through its lawyer George Vlahakis.

He says the now 14-year-old's severe brain damage and severe disability has already exhausted the very limited resources of the family and KFC have to date been determined that the girl does not receive a cent.
