Tent embassy not moving
Tensions mounting over Brisbane's Aboriginal tent embassy as the council issued an eviction notice to make way for this weekend's Greek Panyiri festival.
Tensions are mounting in Brisbane at the Aboriginal tent embassy after the council issued an eviction notice.
The council says it's in the way of this weekend's Greek Panyiri festival and now the threat of forced removal hangs over the embassy.
A city council eviction order has been ignored and they're marking out their territory.
Bogaine Spearim, Embassy spokesman said they do not respect the council's notice.
"Because we're asserting our sovereign rights and the Brisbane city council doesn't recognise our sovereign rights." Mr Spearim said.
Central Brisbane's Musgrave Park has long been a traditional meeting ground for the local tribes.

They've gone now and so has all respect for the police
Mona - from South Brisbane, 1 year
Trapped in the huge traffice jams that engulfed the area because of the cordoning off of a main arterial road I ended up driving past Musgrave Park & saw literally hundreds of uniformed police. Why so many? Hey, must be doing what The Lord Mayor of Brisbane instructed them to do, yet such a show of force! It's not all good, the problem was the police prevented the media from filming ( even from a great distance ). The expectation, clearly, police were going to act unlawfully, with brutality.
Show some tolerance and respect!
Angry at Idiots - from South Brisbane, 1 year
Well, well, well! If you want respect, you should show it first! Get a grip and allow some other Australians to show their pride in their original heritage! If you must stay, get the BCC to fence all around them - for their safety - and let the noise, smell and crowds prevail. Hope they can then enjoy and appreciate another culture.
The locals and festival organiser are in support
Megan - from West End, 1 year
I was down there today and witnessed first hand a text message from the Paniyiri Greek Festival organisers saying they were in support of the embassy and they "have no problem with the Embassy being there during the festival". The Embassy is a peaceful and warm space and alot of cultural knowledge and historical information is being shared by so many local supporters.

If you our our indigenous brothers ever feel as though an injustice was done in the past - We should all think of what rights would have been allowed had we not stopped the Japanese advance in ww2 Get over the mistakes and ignorance of the past and get into the 21st century and stop the games...
Aboriginal Diplomatic Corps
Rod - from Brisbane, 1 year
Is the Aboriginal Nation paying the wages of their Ambassadors, Charge d'Affairs etc.. or are they being subsidies by the Australian taxpayers? Wake up! There is not an aboriginal nation to have an embassy what's more a Diplomatic Corps. You are Australian citizens, grow up, get a hair cut, a job and start contributing to the society that nurtures you. You fellas are tarnishing the image of decent, working, law abiding indigenous citizens who are building a life for themselves and their children
