Australian IT prices to be probed

A new inquiry will investigate whether Australians are paying more for IT products than consumers in overseas markets.

A new parliamentary inquiry will look at whether computer products in Australia are more expensive than overseas markets.

A lower house standing committee will examine how consumers, businesses and governments are affected by the prices they pay for software and hardware available domestically.

Labor MP Nick Champion, who will chair the committee, said Australians were often forced to pay more for IT products than consumers in overseas markets.

The House of Representatives standing committee on infrastructure and communications will look into the cost of computer hardware and software, including games, downloaded music, e-books and professional software.
