Killer says he loves victim, hates himself

An Indian-born man who slit his wife's throat has written of his love for her, while her sister has told a Sydney judge how much she misses her sibling.

A man who slit his wife's throat with a box cutter says he loves her very much, hates himself and admits to being a "very bad person".

"Every single day, every single minute, I think about her," Chamanjot Singh wrote in a letter, tendered at his sentencing hearing in the NSW Supreme Court on Thursday.

"She is living in my breath."

But the victim's sister, Jaspreet Kaur, told the judge, "If God gave me one chance to save her I would never let her live with that man.".

Earlier this month, Singh, 24, was acquitted of murder but found guilty of the manslaughter of Manpreet Kaur, 29, on the grounds of provocation.

He strangled her and slit her throat during an argument in December 2009 at a house they shared with others at Westmead in Sydney's west.

Singh told the jury he lost control of his body and mind after his wife said she had never loved him and loved another man, and after her brother made offensive comments about his mother on the phone.

The couple married in India in September 2008, before Ms Kaur moved to Australia on a student visa in January 2009 and her husband joined her on a dependent spouse visa in May that year.

Jaspreet Kaur broke down repeatedly as she told the court how much she missed her sibling who "was the best sister in this whole world".

"She was killed by that person who she loved so much," Ms Kaur said.

The last time she spoke to her sister was on the night of her death, when she rang begging, "Please save me from this man".

Ms Kaur said she felt guilty as her sister told her she would come to her house the next day.

In his letter, Singh said: "I love my wife very much", and that he was "very, very sorry" for what he had done and he respected and loved her family.

"Everyday I meet her in my dream. I wish to God if God send my Manpreet from this earth and take my life," he wrote.

"I cannot explain how much I hate myself after this incident.

"Every single day I am missing her presence more and more."

Singh will be sentenced early next month.
