Stingers in world water polo medal round

The Aussie Stingers water polo team have thrashed Germany 18-0 to reach the semi-finals of the FINA World League Super Finals in China.

The Australian women's water polo team have moved through to the semi-finals of the FINA World League Super Finals in China after an 18-0 quarter-final victory over Germany.

The win was the Aussie Stingers' fourth in the Super Finals at Changshu - the last major tournament before the Olympic Games - and takes the side's unbeaten run to eight including claiming gold at the official London Test event last month.

The Australians will take on China on Saturday night (7.40pm AEST) for a place in the gold-medal decider on Sunday evening. The other semi will be between Greece and the US.

West Australian Glencora Ralph said the team's 'extra man' attack, which netted them more than half their goals, was outstanding as they moved towards the London Games.

"It's always exciting to contribute to the scoreboard individually but the best thing about today's win was, as a team, we converted 90 per cent or more of our extra-man chances," Ralph said.

"Keeping them scoreless was a massive goal and everything worked in our favour today.

"Our goal is to maintain some consistency leading into the Olympics and that's what we are doing."

The tournament is also the last chance for Australian players to impress head coach Greg McFadden ahead of the Olympic team announcement in Canberra on June 12.
