Home ownership 'not a key to happiness'
Home ownership does not lead to improved mental health, according a new study from the University of Adelaide.
Home ownership does not lead to improved mental health, according a new study from the University of Adelaide.
Dr Emma Baker from the Centre for Housing, Urban and Regional Planning has interviewed more than 10,000 people over a six year period.
Her study confirmed that while home owners are often wealthier and better educated than those who rent, they are exposed to the additional stress of mortgages and unstable property markets.

What is the the definition of home ownership?
Marcel - from Perth, 1 year
You are not a home owner if you have a mortgage on your home. The bank owns it and all your other possessions! You are only a home owner when you hold the title and the property is paid for. As for renters - they face the added stress of increasing rent, termination of rental agreements and decreasing rental availability.
