Two Vic prison officers charged

Two Barwon Prison guards have been charged with drug and firearm offences after early morning raids in Geelong.

Police have charged two of the four Barwon Prison guards they arrested in early morning raids on Tuesday with a number of drug and firearm offences.

Drug Task Force detectives charged a 40-year-old Grovedale man with trafficking a drug of dependence, misconduct in a public office, possessing an unregistered firearm, possessing a prohibited weapon and using and possessing a drug of dependence.

A 40-year-old Norlane man was charged with possessing and using a drug of dependence.

Both were granted bail to appear in the Geelong Magistrates Court on September 26.

A 31-year-old female prison officer from Norlane was interviewed and released pending further inquiries.

Police also interviewed a 46-year-old Norlane man and an 18-year-old Delahey man, neither of whom works at the jail, and they were released also pending further inquiries.
