Sydney woman's alleged murderer extradited

One man is facing a murder charge while another is grieving over the death of Sydney woman Rachelle Yeo.

The partner of murdered Sydney woman Rachelle Yeo says he's devastated by her death, as her suspected killer is set to face court after extradition from Queensland.

Ms Yeo, 31, was found in a North Curl Curl unit, on Sydney's northern beaches, after neighbours reported hearing a shouting match on Monday night.

Police broke the door down about 9.30pm (AEST) but paramedics were unable to save her and she died at the scene.

Paul Darren Mulvihill, 44, appeared in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on Wednesday where NSW Police applied for extradition, which Magistrate Paul Kluck granted.

Mulvihill was arrested at Brisbane Airport on Tuesday afternoon after arriving on a flight from Newcastle.

Police also seized a vehicle from a car park at Newcastle Airport for forensic examination.

Detectives expect to charge him with murder once they arrive in Sydney, where he is due to face court on Thursday.

Police are still waiting for the results of a post-mortem examination.

Dressed in a watchhouse-issue brown tracksuit, Mulvihill shielded his face from the public gallery during the brief Brisbane hearing.

Outside court, his lawyer Tim Meehan said Mulvihill was distressed and intended to fight the impending murder charge.

"He's of course primarily concerned with his family but for anyone who is in custody charged with a serious offence ... it's a distressing time," he told reporters.

"... I have very strong instructions from my client that he intends to defend the charge."

Mr Meehan said he wasn't aware of Mulvihill's relationship with the dead woman.

Meanwhile, a man named as Rob Hunt on Facebook has expressed his devastation at the loss of Ms Yeo.

"Yesterday I lost my soul mate, for those that don't know, Rachelle Yeo was my partner," Mr Hunt said.

"I have adored her since we first met in Ireland and since being with her I have been as happy as a person can possibly be.

"We had planned an amazing life out together and I'm completely devastated that it will no longer happen and the sadness I feel is incomprehensible.

"I'm very grateful for the short time I got to spend with her and I'm consoled in knowing that she was completely in love with me and in a very happy place in the end."

Mr Hunt's comments garnered scores of Facebook responses from friends who offered their condolences.
