Family and friends of Thomas Kelly will gather on Friday to farewell the 18-year-old who died after being punched in Sydney's Kings Cross.

Family and friends of Thomas Kelly will gather for his memorial service nearly two weeks after the 18-year-old was fatally assaulted in Sydney's Kings Cross.

The service, to be held at The King's School in Parramatta in the city's west on Friday morning, comes after Thomas was king-hit by a stranger on Saturday, July 7 as he walked along the nightclub strip with his girlfriend.

He was rushed to hospital in a critical condition with severe head injuries but died two days later when it was decided to switch off his life support.

His family - from the NSW Southern Highlands town of Bowral - said Thomas's death had created an indelible hole.

Kieran Loveridge, 18, appeared in Burwood Local Court on Thursday charged with murder and three counts of assault relating to the attack and several other incidents which took place in Kings cross the same night.

Loveridge did not apply for bail, which was formally refused, but his solicitor said he intended to make a bail application next Wednesday in the same court.
