'I didn't do it' drug-accused tells mother

The mother of an Australian woman facing the death penalty in Malaysia wants the government to spare her daughter's life.

An Australian woman facing the death penalty in Malaysia over drug charges has told her mum she didn't do it.

Emma Louise L'Aiguille, 34, was arrested in Kuala Lumpur on July 17 after about 1kg of ice methamphetamine was allegedly found in a car she was driving.

If convicted of drug trafficking, the mother of six faces a mandatory death penalty.

Her mother Amanda Innes said L'Aiguille had sent her a message through the consulate saying she was sorry and didn't do it.

Ms Innes said she believed her daughter was innocent and hoped the Malaysian government would spare her life.

"I understand it's hanging over there and I would ask the government to spare her that and give her life in prison if she is convicted," she told Fairfax Radio.

"No parent would hope that their child was doing drugs or anything like that."

Ms Innes said she last saw her daughter in 2010 and she had been living in Malaysia for three or four years.

She has not spoken to her since her arrest.

Ms Innes said the consulate was getting her daughter medical help "for depression or something".

"If she had been on drugs then she'd be coming off them, so she'd need medical help to come off it," she said.

But Ms Innes said she did not believe L'Aiguille, who was born and raised in Western Australia, had a history of drug use.

She hopes to be in court in Malaysia for her daughter's next appearance in October.

"I don't have a passport and I'm only on a disability pension and so I'd have to try and raise some money," she said.
